The International Leadership Institute, whose mission is to “facilitate interaction in world affairs and foster intercultural communication among Minnesotans, international organizations and people in other countries”, has recognized the need for an international intervention in helping towards Kenya’s humanitarian crisis. CARE-Kenya will use funds raised by the Help Save Kenya campaign exclusively towards humanitarian efforts in Western Kenya. While not conclusive their activities will include: enhanced access to basic social services i.e. safe water, improved sanitation conditions and essential food and non food items survival. "Something has happened to me over the last month. I have lost everything I know. And one evening when I thought I had not anything more to lose, I lost even more.
We were huddled into a bus, the kind that looks like a lorry. Women and men, both young and old, and children, we all looked at each other glad that we were not among the collective of dead bodies strewn all over the dusty plains.
Help Save Kenya is just one initiative where Kenyans are coming together in alleviating humanitarian efforts in Kenya. Kenyans around the world have mobilized resources, time, labor and in kind donations to help Kenyans recover from this tragedy. This column will highlight such initiatives as we learn of them.
